How Skipping Breakfast Does Not Help You Lose Weight

How many times have you ran out the door without grabbing something for breakfast thinking that it will help you lose more weight anyways? We have probably all done this before because we all get in hurry at times, but not all of is do this because we want to lose weight and the majority know that it wont help you lose weight in the end anyways.

Although many feel it is necessary to skip breakfast to lose weight, it really isn’t. In a study conducted those who ate breakfast regularly experienced sustained weight loss.

Eating breakfast is a daily habit for the “successful losers” who belong to The National Weight Control Registry. These people have maintained a 30-pound (or more) weight loss for at least a year, and some as long as six years.

There are 3 very good reasons why it is not smart to miss breakfast and it is because your body goes into starvation mode, you are most likely to eat more during the day and you are most likely to reach for sugary things when you do want to eat something later in the day.

How does your body go into starvation mode? Our bodies were accustomed from hundred of years ago to store our food in case the time food didn’t come we would survive longer. Many years ago this was the case and people had to eat as much as they could because they did not know where their next meal would come from. Eating food allows our body to know comfortably that we are not going to starve and it can continue to burn what is in it for energy. When we skip breakfast our bodies do not know when the next meal will come and stores it thinking we are going to starve, when really we do not want to skip that breakfast time so our bodies will continue to burn calories and fat.

Why are you most likely to eat more during the day because you have skipped breakfast? If you have skipped breakfast later on in the day you will feel starved and reach for every food in sight not caring what it is or whether it is good or bad for you. This will in the end make you gain weight because you have no self-control when it comes to eating that day because you are starving for food. Your stomach feels completely empty and you feel that you need to fill that hole so you eat as fast as possible which actually does not even give your brain the ability to register that you are full and to let you stomach know as well.

Why do you reach for sugary things if you don’t eat breakfast? When you skip breakfast your blood sugar drops quickly because you have gone all night without eating as well as the morning. You are more likely to reach for a candy bar because your body needs to raise its blood sugar. This in the end may break any diet that you are on to cut out sugar and will make you gain weight instead of lose.

Skipping breakfast does not help you lose weight because your body goes into starvation mode, you end up eating more throughout the day and you cause your blood sugar to drop which may cause you to indulge in sugar intake. Eating breakfast is the smart way to go. Eating breakfast actually helps you to lose weight because you are in better control of your mind and body this way.
